a new abode

We left the Indian Social Institute yesterday - and bid farewell  to the other new VSO volunteers as we all began the journeys to our placements. Ours was significantly shorter than others - being just 45 minutes across the city.

We met Manovikas' Director - Alok, who gave us a very warm welcome and took us to our new abode. The flat has two rooms, plus kitchen & bathroom facilities. It has been newly painted and a western toilet has been fitted specially for us! With a bit of a clean and some 'bits & bobs' it will soon feel like home. The flat overlooks a few shops and is within a "colony"....pictures will be posted soon.

We spent much of our first day at Manovikas where they received the good news that they have become an accredited college to run vocational courses for young people with specialist needs. I'm looking forward very much to becoming involved.

This morning we spent having a look round the area and we were a source of amusement & interest to our neighbours - we even got an invite in for coffee with our neighbours. Tomorrow we start work - for me an easy half hour walk, for Daniel - a commute on the bus, metro and rickshaw!!

  1. Oh I'm so looking forward to your updates and adventures. Until I can join you at VSO training & Manovikas in March this is the next best thing! Hoping my accommodation is as close to work as yours is - and as nice as your sounds! Can't wait for pics.

A half hour walk sounds perfect! Though a bus, metro, and rickshaw commute does sound exciting!!
